Version 1.6 Coming Next Week
Notch tweeted today that the new version of Minecraft will come out sometime next week. Here are some of the new features that likely to be included in the upcoming patch
Maps
Nether working in SMP
Sky dimension
Shift-clicking objects in crafting windows will place the crafted item in your inventory
Hatches
Powered Minecart and Powered Rail boost
Minecart boosting no longer works
Boat/water elevator slowed down
